How to Select a Dental Instrument
Dental instruments are mechanical tools used for the examination, diagnosis, and remediation of various oral ailments. The most common dental instruments are dental handpieces, dental scissors, dental moulds, dental handpieces, dental drills, dental handpieces, dental scissors, dental moulds, dental handpieces, dental drill bits, dental handpiece attachments, dental handpiece removers, dental trays, dental veneers, dental bonding, dental crowns, dental orthodontics, dental implants, dental removable teeth, dental prosthetics, dental restoration, and dental veneers. Various other dental tools are available. Some tools are manual and some are automatic. Some dental tools can be used in dentistry.
A dental filling process begins with the preparation of the filling material. This preparation is called preparation for the filling or impression. During the filling procedure, a mould or impression is made from the patient's tooth and this mould or impression is later forwarded to the dentist. The dentist makes use of his dental tools such as dental carving tools, dental drill bits, dental cement, dental cutting tools and dental removers for the preparation of the impression. The dentist will use these tools to cut out the pieces of dental filling material which he intends to use to fill the complete tooth or dental cavity.
Tooth decay is a condition in which the bacteria that normally exist in the mouth begin to destroy the teeth. Such bacteria are a by-product of food particles that have become impacted on the teeth and among them are oxidized carbohydrates like sugar, starch, protein and fat. Such particles cannot be eliminated from the mouth permanently unless a dental instrument is used for its removal.
Dentists make use of dental instruments such as dental cutting tools to remove dental filling from the teeth. Such dental instruments include dental cutting forceps, dental scissors, dental stethoscopes, dental handpieces, dental drill bits and dental cement. It is the dental filling that is removed and not the tooth.
After the removal of dental instruments such as dental cutting instrument and dental scissors, the remaining residue is then cleaned using a dental instrument cleaning kit. This cleaning process ensures that the remaining bacteria do not create a breeding ground in the patient's mouth. The dental instruments need to be sterilized before being reused especially if the instruments have been used for other patients before. After cleaning dental instruments, they are put back for use. The dental instruments are put back into their respective carrying case or box.
When the dental instruments are not to be used any longer due to any reason such as improper sterilization, corrosion, lack of space or simply because the patient no longer needs them, they are then disposed of by the dentist. In some dental institutions, the instruments for the tooth extraction procedure may be retained for storage for a longer period of time. Most dentists retain the endodontic tooth root extractor and the dental bridges that are not used on a regular basis or are not too worn out in order for them to be stored. The dental filling procedure may also be preserved for future use in cases where there is a need to extract more teeth in the same dental procedure. If there is a need to extract teeth more than three times in one dental procedure, the endodontic or dental bridge is needed for every tooth being extracted.
The third type of dental instrument that is used by dentists is the orthodontic mouth mirror. An orthodontic mouth mirror can be considered the dental mirror that is used for diagnosing an orthodontic problem. This tool allows the dentist to see the condition of the teeth and bite with better accuracy. More often than not, this dental instrument is used by orthodontists as well as dentists. It is considered useful for patients who have a disfigured smile due to lack of orthodontic treatment.
A good dental instrument, an orthodontic mouth mirror for example, will help an orthodontist diagnose and treat patients who have poor posture or improper bite. An orthodontic toothbrush is also used for cleaning the teeth and keeping them white. In cases where the dentist is not sure whether a patient's bite is aligned correctly, he/she uses the toothbrush to brush the teeth thoroughly. Even though it is not used for treating patients with orthodontic problems, it helps the dentist identify dental problems that may exist at a deeper level. Having a reliable dental instrument in your dental collection will come in handy whenever you require certain tools for various dental procedures.
